How to report allegedly infringing material on Constellate, and how to reach our designated agent. This supplements our Terms of Service.

Reporting infringement

Constellate lets people upload texts they have lawful access to and charts the figures and relationships within them; shared graphs expose only the derived map with evidence quotations capped at 50 words. If you believe material accessible through Constellate infringes your copyright, send a written notice to our designated agent (below).

What a valid notice must include

Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3), your notice must include:

1. Your physical or electronic signature.
2. Identification of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed.
3. Identification of the material you claim is infringing, and enough information for us to locate it (for a shared graph, include its URL).
4. Your contact information — name, address, telephone, and email.
5. A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
6. A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on the owner's behalf.

Counter-notification

If your material was removed and you believe that was a mistake or misidentification, you may send our designated agent a counter-notification containing the elements required by 17 U.S.C. § 512(g). We will forward valid counter-notifications to the original complainant as the statute requires.

Repeat infringers

We respond to valid takedown notices and terminate, in appropriate circumstances, the accounts of users who are repeat infringers.
