Hector rallies the Trojan battalions at Helenos' urging and returns to the city to arrange offerings to Athene. He visits his mother Hekabe, rebukes Paris for shirking battle, and has a tender, sorrowful farewell with his wife Andromache and infant son Astyanax before returning to battle and challenging the Achaeans to send a champion for single combat.
